I adored this book. Woman meets man, they have wild, offthe-charts sex, and man turns out to be woman’s son’s new teacher. Bam! It’s the best kind of forbidden attraction, one that Blakely molds into the perfect love story! It’s witty and sexy: the best combination. Bring on the other 2 brothers!!
This was so good! I'm giving it 4.5 out of 5 stars. This review is for an ARC, and reflects my honest opinion.
I absolutely adored this ARC. The characters were fantastic, the story flowed, there were some great sexy times, and lots of sweetness. Seeing the way Campbell and Mackenzie interacted with their kids was adorable. They're fantastic parents, and I was rooting for them from the very beginning.
Campbell is definitely going on my book boyfriend list, and I think his brothers might be joining him once I read their books. The book was told in dual POV, and I loved seeing both sides to this story. In addition to loving Mackenzie and Campbell, I liked Kyle, Samantha, Jamison, Miller, Ally, and lots of others too. There wasn't really anyone in this that I didn't enjoy reading about.
If you had doubts about how much I enjoyed this, I read it in two sittings in the same day (finishing the entire book within 12 hours of starting it). I could have easily read it in one sitting, but I didn't want it to end that fast. I am super excited for the next book in this trilogy! Thankfully I won't have to wait very long. I highly recommend you check this one out if you love single parent romances, rock star/musical romances, or just a really cute contemporary with a bit of a fiery side.
Famazing! The smart, witty, intelligent dialogue blew me away in this sweet, sexy romance with two of the best characters I've every read. Super mom Mackenzie is a hoot with her trivia skills and marvelous life attitude. She's put her love life on hold to focus on her son and his needs but when she lays eyes on the sexy guitar player at her favorite haunt it's on. And Campbell is right there with her. He is such a dirty-talking hot hunk! I was swooning from the first hair flip to the last melting kiss. He's a great single dad in addition to his other amazing attributes. There's so much to love about this fantastic story from the sizzling chemistry between Campbell and Mackenzie to the wonderful secondary characters, especially the kids, to the funny, sweet banter to the great ending. This is a feel-good rom com that's low on drama and high on love. Lots of sexy love! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
Once Upon a Real Good Time is book #1 in the Heartbreakers series and is the story of Mackenzie and Campbell.
Mackenzie is a single mom who has overcome some obstacles to get to where she is in life. In her final year of College she slept with her best friend guy friend so he could see if he was bi or gay. Turns out he was gay and that one time, she ended up pregnant. Even though life has thrown her curve balls, she makes the best of it, she starts her own graphic design business, still has a great relationship with her guy BFF and they co-parent their son.
Campbell is a single dad and a talented rock star! His band plays at the Grouchy Owl, where Mackenzie just happens to be playing trivia with her friend Roxy. During his set, Campbell can't help but notice Mackenzie, but after he's done playing she's no where in sight.
They end up running into each other again, thanks to a little help from Roxy, and the sparks fly. "I'm wondering if you want to be kissed by someone who's been wanting to kiss you all night long."
Things heat up between the two of them, then hit a brick wall when she finds out that Campbell is the person that's been hired to be her son's music teacher. "Who decided that breakups had to hurt worse than stepping on Legos?"
In the end it's their kids who intervene to bring them back together.
Mackenzie is a single mom who can’t help but notice the hot guitar player at her favorite bar. Campbell Is a single dad, a former pop star who lives a more private lifestyle now. The chemistry between these
two is off the charts but putting their children first gets in the way of their romance. This is a quick, enjoyable read, with lots of dirty talking in an overall happy, feel-good romance. Blakely at her best. Oh,
and Campbell is one of three rock star brothers, so you can bet there will be more deliciousness to follow in the Heartbreaker Brothers series
Lauren Blakely taps into the forbidden fantasy of every woman on the planet with this deliciously sexy romance between a former rock star and a beautiful trivia buff whose one night stand is guaranteed to fulfill every woman’s wildest dreams. There’s a good reason why romance books have gorgeously muscled men on the covers and Lauren Blakely rocks at picking the best cover models I’ve ever seen. You can be sure I kept that delectable cover in mind the entire time I was reading Campbell and Mackenzie’s story. What I enjoyed most about this book is that these lovers are mature 30-something characters who always remember that their teenage children come first in their lives. That rarely happens in this day and age and for a mature reader like me, I find that really sexy! I read an early copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
New author for me. A well written story, with a BUT...... the sex scenes with all the unnecessary language were more of a turn off than a turn on. It would have been more than hot without it. These days my opinion would be in the minority because it seems the majority love it going by the reviews. Just seems a shame to me that for two people who were falling in love and were so great out of the bedroom, would dirty it up when they were in it. Just my opinion.
couldn’t get through the first 50 pages. Ridiculous, cheesy and just bad.
This story is so well developed and wickedly funny. Lauren has once again hit a homer run with the story of Mackenzie and Campbell while so delightfully addressing single parenthood and fame. This book has all then necessary twists and turns that leave you laughing, crying wanting and loving. I hated to reach the last page because I wanted more. I finished with a new heart throb Campbell and a best friend Mackenzie who could ask for anything more.
I Love Story Time
HOLY HOTNESS! Lauren Blakely is on fire with this story! I LOVED IT! Campbell and Mackenzie's story is sexy and fun with a whole lot of angst. I think I wiggled and smiled throughout this entire book. The chemistry between these too is white hot and delicious. Not to mention, the storyline is super endearing and I just adored the kids. If you are looking for something light and steamy that you can consume in one sitting, Once Upon A Real Good Time is it!
♥ Review by Lys
All hail the queen of the rom com. Lauren Blakely wowed me again. I devoured this book!! DE-VOU-RED! I just could not get enough of the chemistry between Campbell and Mackenzie. My goodness!! Everything about this book had me giddy as can be. Once Upon a Real Good Time had all my favorite elements - outstanding characters, fun & flirty banter, single parents romance, sexy rock stars and all the steaminess you could want. It was a sweet, light read with tons of heart and many swoons. Lauren Blakely is the master of witty and entertaining dialogue. The characters had a natural chemistry that made the banter between them feel effortless and extremely enjoyable. It had me smiling the entire time. This book will now be my go to book if I ever need a jolt of happiness.
Once again Lauren Blakely has created a group of characters that were easy to root for. Mackenzie, Campbell and all their family and friends were so brilliantly entertaining. There was not one person I disliked even a little. I absolutely loved Mackenzie. Her strength, intelligence and her selflessness are a few reasons why she will always be one of my favorite heroines. She's had to (happily) dedicate so much of her life to her son. I loved seeing her open herself up to a possibility with Campbell. Not that that was a tough challenge because Campbell Evans... holy cow!...am I drooling? I have a massive crush. He's so talented, charming and sexy with a deliciously dirty mouth. *fans self* Seriously hot! He's also just a really great guy. Whether he's on stage, in the kitchen tasting his daughter baking creations, or on the phone watching Netflix with Mackenzie, this man was easily winning over my heart.
Their connection is my favorite part of this story. They started off fast but when they were forced to step back the friendship they built was everything. It felt real.
I love love love this book! When I finished it, I immediately wanted to read it all over again. I can’t wait to see what the other sexy rock star brothers have in store. If it's half as good as the first book, than I already know it'll be a future favorite read.
Campbell Mason Evans was known as Mason Hart, one third of the band the Heartbreakers, but all of that changed when he became a father to Samantha, and while he still keeps his passion for music alive, the musician lifestyle and everything that comes with it is not who he is anymore and he’s more than fine with his new life.
A Real Good Time…
That’s something that single mom, Mackenzie, hasn’t had a lot of lately, unless you count the time she spends at The Grouchy Owl proving that her moniker of ‘trivia queen’ is more than appropriate. Mackenzie’s priorities are her 13 year old son and her job, which doesn’t leave time for anything else, at least according to her.
Once Upon A Real Good Time…
The instant spark between Mackenzie and Campbell led to a night where they could just be themselves, giving into their desires for one another and remembering what it’s like to go a little wild in the most delicious ways possible. But what that means for who they are outside of their glorious night together is still in question, especially when their ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ lives intersect.
The circumstances that Mackenzie and Campbell find themselves in due to the direction their lives took and the difficult choices they made are relatable and realistically portrayed and the fact that Lauren Blakely allows both of her main characters’ voices/perspectives to be heard as they juggle parenthood, a career, and a blossoming personal life - all factors that overwhelm, frustrate, and amaze them on any given day - provides the perfect amount of insight to understand why Mackenzie and Campbell can’t just completely give in to the chemistry between them without considering the potential risks.
The supporting characters, particularly Campbell’s brothers and daughter as well as Mackenzie’s best friend and son, make this story even more well-rounded and entertaining because Lauren Blakely makes them a priority; she understands how pivotal the main characters’ children are to the big picture and to any relationship that may develop between Campbell and Mackenzie and the insights that the other characters help to expose proves why the main characters have chosen the path they’re living and why it would have to be something extraordinary for them to deviate from the status quo.
Lauren Blakely, once again, proves why her romantic comedies are some of the best around; her characters are extremely likable, their perspectives are emotionally rich and thoughtful, and the plot line flows organically based on the conflicts the hero and heroine must struggle through in order to appease everyone and everything involved.
Once Upon a Real Good Time has a great mix of sweet and sexy as well as family time and personal time, and it also allows readers to truly see who the hero and the heroine are and why they, too, deserve to be happy in every sense of the word.
